Internet users are not known for their attention spans. As a content marketer or blogger, you only have seconds to grab readers attention. If someone clicks on your blog, but your intro doesn’t grab them right away, they will click off. But, knowing how to write a great blog intro can decrease your bounce rate and improve your SEO.
Here is how to write a blog intro that hooks readers:
Use the 5 W’s
When crafting your introduction, take your topic and ask yourself the 5 W’s – who, what, when, where, and why. Your answers to these questions will craft a compelling introduction that gives readers the core information they need.
Ask these questions:
- Who is this blog post for?
- What is the blog post about? What are common challenges people face in this topic?
- When could readers use this information?
- Where will this thing happen? Where can readers find more information or resources?
- Why is this information valuable?
Use Ahrefs’ PAS formula
Ahrefs’ PAS formula is a simple framework that can take your intros from boring to captivating. Here is how it goes:
- Problem: identify a pain point or problem that your audience likely experiences
- Agitation: Make your readers feel the discomfort this problem causes
- Solution: Introduce your blog post as the solution to their problem
Use the KISS method
The KISS method stands for Keep It Short & Sweet (alternatively, Keep It Simple, Stupid!). Whenever you write a blog post intro, keep your wording concise. Don’t overcomplicate it with jargon or unnecessary details. You can get to details later, but save it for now.
A great blog post is accessible, easy to read, and gets to the point. Let the reader decide whether or not they want to invest in the whole blog post.
