If you want to start earning an income from your blog, then picking a niche is the key to success. Many people either struggle to narrow down their blog topic, or make their blog too generic. Picking a niche will help drive passionate readers to your blog time and time again. If your blog has too broad of a topic, people won’t get excited about it.

What is a blog niche?
A blog niche is a specific topic that all your posts will be about. For example, a travel blog is an incredibly broad topic with a lot of competition. If you want to write in the travel category, then pick a sub-topic such as luxury travel, solo female travel, or backpacking travel. These categories are more specific, have less competition, and are thus more marketable.
How do you find your niche?
- Start by making a list of your broad passions. You want to provide value to your readers, so make sure your topics are things you are knowledgable about and that you can provide a lot of content for.
- Take your list and start thinking of sub-categories.
- Take your list of sub-categories and do keyword research on those things to find out how they trend online. You want to pick something that maintains consistent popularity over time. You can use Google trends for a free way to do keyword research.
